Gum Surgery
Types of Gum Surgery in Winnipeg
Do you need gum surgery? Perhaps you feel the pain of gum disease and suffer from gum recession. Or maybe you have gums that cover a large portion of your front teeth, which could be due to genetics or prescription medications. We offer gum surgery for either situation in Winnipeg. Whether you choose to have gum surgery for medical or cosmetic reasons, we are here to help!
Before any of the following types of gum surgeries, we will give you a local anaesthetic. You’ll be comfortable and relaxed throughout one of the following procedures.
Gum Contouring—Cosmetic or Medical
Also known as gum reshaping or tissue sculpting, this procedure adjusts your gum line, whether you have too much gum or too little. Gum contouring can be done with scalpels, lasers, or radiosurgery in order to trim away excess and conduct reshaping. Polo Park Dental Centre will discuss the best option with you.
Soft Tissue Grafts—Cosmetic or Medical
Grafted tissue, usually taken from the roof of the mouth, is stitched in places where thin or receding gums need to be filled in or reinforced.
Flap Surgery—Medical
Gums are lifted back to remove tartar and clean the roots of a tooth. If needed, bones will be repaired as well. Then, gums are sown back in place so that tissue fits snugly around the tooth, preventing future bacteria growth.
Recovery from gum surgery may take a few days or weeks. Tips to help your recovery after gum surgery in Winnipeg include:
-
Taking over-the-counter pain relievers (Do NOT take aspirin—it causes gum bleeding)
-
Eating soft, cool foods
-
Avoiding spicy foods and foods with seeds
-
Brushing only the teeth where the gums were not operated on
Our dentists are experts in performing gum surgery and will take good care of you. Call Polo Park Dental Centre at 204-774-2521 if you have any questions or would like to set up an appointment.
